Map Roman is an elegant titling serif based on the
cartorgraphic lettering of noted British illustrator
Max Gill. In 1914, Gill created his best-known work, the
Wonderground Map that was credited with saving the
London Underground. Map Roman’s variable width axis is
inspired by Wonderground’s 1922 successor, In the Heat
of the Summer, which is notable for how it packs narrow
letters into a compact space while preserving their
liveliness and authority.
