SLIGHT CHANCE is inspired by the typography of the ENVIRONMENT
CANADA WEATHER CHANNEL as it appeared on GREATER WINNIPEG CABLEVISION.
Matt Hadden and Mark J. Szymanski maintain a simulator of the channel
that livestreams current weather conditions as it looked in the 1990s. I
worked with them to revive the ANGULAR BITMAP FONT in use at the time,
and then undertook this freer interpretation with both proportional and
monospaced versions and an accompanying lowercase. SLIGHT CHANCE evokes
the worn, slightly-degraded texture of letterforms that have endured
cable transmissions and cathode ray tubes, contrasting gummy, amorphous
interior shapes with a harder-edged, octagonal exterior.
